In the next 2 minutes, I'm going to show you how you can protect yourself from a critical illness, and give your children a head-start in life - at the same time!
Critical illness is an insurance product which protects an individual's finances in the event that they suffer from a critical illness. When you suffer from a critical illness, chances are you're going to be out of work for an indefinite period of time, and you may even incur costs to pay for your recovery!
Critical illness protects you from incurring these costs, and from losing your income.
Different insurance companies will cover different illnesses, but almost all cover what is known as the "Big Five".
The "Big Five"
Now - here's how you can give your kids, or grandkids, a gift with critical illness insurance!
If you're speaking to an independent life insurance broker (like myself), or to an insurance advisor directly from a company, make sure to ask them about a "return of premium at expiry" add-on.
Return of premium at expiry:
If you don't fall ill (best case scenario), and your policy expires, your insurance company will hand you a cheque amounting to the exact dollar you paid to have this policy.
- you purchased a $100,000 critical illness policy when you were 30 years old, which expires at 70 years of age.
- you pay $60/month for your critical illness policy
- you are now 70 years of age
- you didn't make any claims, so your insurance company will hand you a cheque for the following amount: $28,800
$60/month x 12 = $720/year
$720 x 40 (years) = $28,800
You can then take that cheque, and hand it over to your kids, or your grandkids as a gift!
This is your money. You can do whatever you'd like with it!
Pretty neat right?
Critical illness with a return of premium at expiry is simply a no brainer. Not only are you protecting yourself, but if you don't use it, you can give your kids a head start in life.
